Software Licensing

Licensing the Demo Version
You can download a fully-functional demo version of the OPC DataHub software. The demo software will run with no restrictions for a period of 1 hour, and you can restart it as many times as you want. Installing a DataHub Node License code will unlock the demo version. You do not have to re-install the software, or restart the application.

There are three types of OPC DataHub license.

DataHub Node Licenses
This is the common license required for each computer running the OPC DataHub software. Installing the DataHub Node License will unlock the demo software.
Installing the DataHub Node License enables the following features:
  • Unlimited OPC client and server connections.
  • Unlimited DDE client and server connections (to Excel for example).
  • Unlimited tunnelling between DataHubs, including to the Cascade DataHub in Linux and QNX.
  • Unlimited aggregation and bridging between DataHub clients.
  • Unlimited DataHub scripting, email and ODBC (database) connections.
  • The System Monitor feature is also enabled when you install a DataHub Node License.
DataHub TCP Link Licenses
We provide a free programming API that allows you to create custom TCP/IP connections from your own programs to the OPC DataHub using either C++, Microsoft .NET or Java. Each of these individual connections requires a DataHub TCP Link License. Your TCP/IP connections may be made over a network or locally on the DataHub computer.
  • The DataHub TCP Link License is an optional license that is only needed if you want to connect to the OPC DataHub using TCP/IP. TCP connections are typically used when you develop a custom connection to the DataHub using the DataHub API. TCP connections are also used for some of the real-time web displays described below.
  • If you connect to the DataHub using OPC or DDE, then you do not need a DataHub TCP Link License. You only need the TCP link licenses if you are connecting to the DataHub using a custom TCP/IP connection.
  • Tunnelling between DataHubs does not require a TCP Link License.
DataHub Web Server Licenses
This is another optional license that enables the DataHub Web Server. When using the OPC to Web feature of the DataHub, you have four options for how you can display data in the web browser, OPC to Web Comparison.
  1. ASP - Requires the DataHub Web Server license.
  2. Polling AJAX - Requires the DataHub Web Server License.
  3. Streaming AJAX - Requires both the DataHub Web Server License and a TCP Link License (see above) for each concurrent web browser.
  4. Java - Requires a TCP Link License for each concurrent web browser connection, but the Web Browser License is optional. Most customers choose to install the DataHub Web Server, but you can choose to configure your own web server to serve web pages which contain Java applets that make a TCP connection back to the DataHub.
Licensing Example - Streaming AJAX
For example, if you have 5 people viewing your Streaming AJAX page at the same time, then you would need:
  • 1 x OPC DataHub Node License
  • 1 x OPC DataHub Web Server License
  • 5 x OPC DataHub TCP Link Licenses
